I came across your blog when I Googled the line "and the fever of life is over" for my sermon tomorrow. I love your photo, and your thought. I am an Episcopal priest in Wisconsin, USA, and mostly of Irish descent. Getting to Ireland some day is tops on my bucket list!

You have captured glimpses of still life, time and space, moments in light and shade,
frozen in images that can never again be exactly repeated.
An analogy to how we could view the written Word perhaps….

Some of your images are truly spectacular and belies your description of yourself as an “amateur photographer”.

Lovely photo, Daniel! Indeed snow can be so peaceful, just the crunch of boots on untrodden snow -so long as we do not have to travel!

I don't know whether Newman wrote this prayer before or after he moved to Rome, but it is a gem of Anglican spirituality. We used it as our parish prayer for November, most suitable for a season of remembrance.

Despite the difficulty this weather brings them, it is marvellous to see how they help each other with fodder etc, and so often help others on otherwise impassable roads with their tractors - something for which I have cause to be grateful!

Thanks for this Daniel. Wilfred Owen should be required reading for each generation to help people remember how horrible war can be.

I find this poem particularly touching - when I was in the military, part of our training for chemical warfare was to be locked in a bunker filled with CS gas & then remove our masks & spend about a few minutes in there with them off. Even that short period was a pretty horrible experience and it was only tear gas - it's 25 years ago and I don't think I'll ever forget the choking, burning, blinding experience ... and it's something that wouldn't even compare to the reality of what can happen on the battlefield.
